Potassium formate Usage And Synthesis
Physical and chemical properties It is colorless transparent liquid or white solid, it easily absorbs moisture, it has reduction, it can react with strong oxidizers, density is 1.9100g /cm3, it is soluble in water, specific gravity of saturated solution is 1.58 g /cm3, it is non-toxic and non-corrosive. Potassium formate can be synthesized by heating carbon monoxide and potassium hydroxide, further acidification and distillation can obtain formic acid.

Uses It is mainly used for preparation of an aqueous solution filling the well, in foreign country, potassium formate began to be used in drilling and completion fluids in 1990s, it is especially used in high-density drilling and completion fluid system, and achieved good results. Drilling fluid system which formulated with potassium formate has outstanding advantages of strong inhibition, good compatibility, environmental protection, reservoir protection. Field application results shows that potassium formate can inhibite clay water divide .
